With limited transportation and event services support on such a
small island, charter planes were needed to bring guests in from Athens
on a shuttle service. However, with Greece experiencing record heat
for the week of the congress, charter planes could only carry to 50%
capacity providing huge logistical challenges to bring attendees both
on and off the island.
In addition to general congress session, individual countries had
their own meetings and social events around the island. The combination
of the extreme heat with air conditioning failing to cope gave major
challenges in relocating events at short notice.
