Over 200 invited guests were treated to a spectacular evening of live performance at The Art of Events, a gala celebration produced by The Special Event Company to launch our USA east coast office and partnership with The Durham Arts Council.

Guests entered the auditorium at the historic Carolina Theatre to the inviting sounds of the Durham Children’s Choir. Following a welcome and video presentation by the evening’s hosts – Sally Webb, founder of The Special Event Company, and Ellie Torre of the Durham Arts Council the large film screen was lifted as the African American Dance Troupe performed, leading guests to a completely transformed theatre stage where the crux of the evening’s interactive party took place.

As guests mingled onstage, spandex clad acrobats dramatically covered the seating with giant sails as a mirrored Samurai Warrior appeared on the darkened lower balcony area, heralding a powerful lightshow. This preceded the reveal of a specially-crafted stage upon which Grammy nominated recording artist Nnenna Freelon performed with her band.

The talented production team, led by The Special Event Company, included Designs by Sean, American Audio Video and Mitchell’s Catering.

Entertainment was provided by Nnenna Freelon, Chuck Davis and the African American Dance Ensemble, The Durham Children’s Choir, The Triangle Youth Ballet and Mallarmé Chamber Players.

Production support was given by BK Design, Special Event Rentals, Ice Occasions, Les Todd Photography, Merge Films and Daisy Notes + Paper.

Special thanks to the excellent Carolina Theatre production team.
